does SFLAN have any tips for getting Wireless access in the presidio in an area which the services providers don't service with DSL or Cable modem. I just moved to an area called North Fort Scott, about 300 yards from the Toll Plaza Visitor center of the GG Bridge. Is SFLAN an option out here? Any suggestions?

please share if you find answers here. I move into NFS next week. I netstumbled around last week and found many wireless APs. By the topos, SFLAN1 might be line of sight if there's enough gain to see through the trees. Several lines were hosted on the pbi.net network. I'm currently on a SBC DSL so I'm going to try to bug them some more. The PBI lines were in the baker beach area. There's a link SSID Beachhouse (I think) that was getting a Megapath feed. If I can't get someone to serve a line to my new address, I'll be getting an antennae and experimenting.

I'm on Ramsell Court off Armistead. No luck with reasonable access there. Megapath has a line into one of the neighbors, but it's slow and expensive. Another has a sattelite with same problem, and against Presidio Rules. Count me in if you want help pushing the phone company. You can also call the presidio Telecom people who will tell you PacBell access stops out around Baker Beach Apts.

Does Presidio Telecom offer a dial-up internet ISP?

We are already a DSL subscriber but need additional, off-site accounts.

I am on Armistead. I haven't climbed on the roof with the binoculars yet but I think I have a LOS on SFLAN1. I spent some time on the phone with SBC and apparently they had scheduled to have a repeater station in to service us by now but spending cuts as a result of lost revenues from 9/11/01 made this not happen yet. They are supposed to contact me as soon as the repeater goes in. In the mean time I'll report back with the results of my SFLAN experimentation. Yagi should arrive in a week and we'll see what happens. If it all works I can add an additional AP that you might be able to pull a LOS on.
